Abstract

This study assessed the effects of parental involvement on the social competence and behavior of preschoolers in public elementary schools within the Tubigon West District, Division of Bohol Province for school year 2024-2025, which formed the basis for the proposed action plan. A quantitative descriptive-correlational design was employed to gather data from the teachers and 100 parents with total enumeration on the part of the former and quota sampling on the part of the latter. Instruments used are the adapted parental involvement questionnaire and an adapted behavioral assessment scale. The demographics and the level of parents’ involvement from the respondents were analyzed by using descriptive statistics. Additionally, Pearson Product-Moment Correlation Coefficient (r) was utilized to examine the relationship between parent’s involvement and the child’s social competence and behavior at a 0.05 level of significance. Results showed that parents demonstrated a high level of involvement; however, the only minimal positive relationship was between the involvement and preschoolers’ social competencies and behaviors, which was still limited in direct effect on behavior problems. Simultaneously, highly engaged parents had a direct positive relationship with the quality of experience of education. The proposed intervention would attempt to increase the involvement of parents in early childhood education in order to expand the richness of the social and emotional environment for young learners.
