Abstract
The study explores the effectiveness of utilizing History Event Digests as an enrichment tool to reinforce learners’ historical awareness. A quasi-experimental design was employed, involving Grade 7 students from Col. Lauro D. Dizon Memorial Integrated High School. The research methods included pre-tests and post-tests to measure changes in historical awareness, along with a survey to capture students’ perceptions of the digest’s usefulness and effectiveness. The findings revealed a significant improvement in students’ historical awareness after using the digest, with notable increases in their understanding and engagement with historical content. The implications of these findings suggest that incorporating interactive and engaging educational tools like History Event Digests can enhance historical education, leading to better academic performance and a deeper appreciation of history. However, the study’s scope was limited to a specific school and grade level, which may affect the generalizability of the results. Additionally, the content of the digest focused on selected historical periods, potentially overlooking other significant events. Overall, the study underscores the potential of History Event Digests to improve historical awareness and suggests areas for further research and development to enhance their effectiveness.
