Abstract

In many organizations, emotional intelligence plays a critical role in shaping employees’ work attitudes, interpersonal relationships, and commitment to institutional goals. However, limited empirical studies have examined the relationship between emotional intelligence and organizational commitment among personnel in local government units, particularly in the Municipality of Maconacon, Isabela. This study examined the relationship between employees’ emotional intelligence and organizational commitment in the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Maconacon, Isabela. A descriptive cross-sectional survey design was employed involving 51 LGU employees from various offices and positions. Data were gathered using a structured questionnaire based on standardized emotional intelligence and organizational commitment scales, supported by informal interviews. Statistical tools such as frequency, percentage, ranking, and weighted mean were used in analyzing the data. Findings revealed that most employees demonstrated high levels of emotional intelligence characterized by emotional awareness, empathy, and the ability to regulate emotions in the workplace. Results also indicated a high level of organizational commitment among employees, reflected in their willingness to exert effort, loyalty to the organization, and alignment with institutional goals. The study concludes that emotional intelligence contributes positively to organizational commitment and effective workplace relationships among LGU personnel.
