Abstract

Filipinos believed that education is the only wealth that a parent can give to his child. That’s one of the reasons why most Filipino parents strived harder for their child’s education despite the thick and thin that they have encountered in life. This study explored on parents’ involvement and numeracy performance of the grade two learners and utilized a descriptive method of research. In particular, this study determined the profile of the parents in terms of highest educational attainment, combined monthly income, occupation, and number of family members; the numeracy performance of the learners in RMA BOSY and EOSY results; the level of parents’ involvement as to parenting, communicating, volunteering, learning at home, decision-making, and collaborating with community; and the challenges met by the teachers in developing the numeracy performance of the learners.  Findings of the study showed, that there was a significant increase in the numeracy performance of the learners between RMA BOSY and EOSY results. Furthermore, results revealed that there was a significant relationship between the level of parents’ involvement and numeracy performance of the learners. Lack of foundational skills, inability of the learners to comprehend numeracy and mathematical concepts, and parent intervention were some of the challenges usually met by the teachers. Hence, to address this gap, an action plan was crafted and humbly proposed for the purpose of intensifying the parents’ involvement that would aid in developing the numeracy performance of the learners.

Keywords: Profile of the parents, level of parents’ involvement, numeracy performance, challenges met by the teachers, action plan
