Abstract
This study assessed the grit levels of public secondary school teachers in San Pablo City and their performance as defined by the Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers (PPST), with the goal of informing a more effective instructional supervisory plan. Employing an explanatory sequential mixed-method design, the study integrated quantitative metrics (mean, standard deviation, correlation analysis) with qualitative insights from teacher interviews. Findings revealed that teachers’ grit, characterized by perseverance, passion, and purpose, significantly correlates with high PPST performance, with most teachers achieving “Outstanding” or “Very Satisfactory” ratings. Teachers expressed resilience by adapting to challenges, such as extended work hours, documentation demands, and the need to address student learning recovery. Moreover, teachers demonstrated grit through their commitment to continuous professional development, collaboration, and instructional adaptation to meet student needs. The study highlights grit as a vital attribute for achieving high performance and recommends targeted strategies such as resilience-building programs, professional collaboration, and adaptive goal setting to empower teachers. A supervisory plan incorporating these elements could strengthen teachers’ capacity to sustain passion and perseverance in their careers, ensuring alignment with PPST standards and positively impacting educational outcomes.
