Abstract
This study was conducted to determine the levels of perception, interest, and comprehension of Ibong Adarna among Grade 7 students of Ernesto R. Sicad Sr. National High School, Pawa, Panay, Capiz, for the school year 2024–2025. It also aimed to identify whether there are significant differences in the level of comprehension based on students’ levels of perception and interest in Ibong Adarna. The study employed stratified random sampling. The independent variables were students’ perception and interest in Ibong Adarna, while the dependent variable was comprehension of Ibong Adarna. Out of 118 Grade 7 students, only 88 were selected as participants using Taro Yamane’s formula for stratified random sampling. To measure the students’ level of perception of Ibong Adarna, the researcher, with the help of the adviser, constructed a 45-item questionnaire. A separate 45-item instrument was used to measure students’ level of interest in Ibong Adarna. Meanwhile, a 25-item researcher-made test was utilized to measure students’ level of comprehension. Data were analyzed through computer-processed statistics such as percentage mean, frequency count, standard deviation, ANOVA, and Pearson r, with the alpha level set at .05 for all inferential tests. Findings revealed that Grade 7 students demonstrated a “High” level of perception and a “High” level of interest in Ibong Adarna. However, their level of comprehension was found to be “Moderate.” Results further indicated “no significant difference” in comprehension across varying levels of perception and interest in Ibong Adarna. Similarly, no significant relationships were found between perception and interest, perception and comprehension, as well as interest and comprehension of Ibong Adarna.
