Abstract

This study aimed to determine the leadership practices of public elementary school heads and their relationship to teachers’ motivation and performance in the Bobon District, Division of Northern Samar. Specifically, it examined the respondents’ profile, the level of leadership practices, teachers’ motivation, and performance, as well as the significant differences and relationships among these variables. The study employed a quantitative-descriptive correlational research design. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire and analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). Descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation were used, while inferential statistics including Shapiro-Wilk test, Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskal-Wallis test, Chi-square test, and Spearman Rho correlation were applied. The findings revealed that instructional leadership was highly practiced, while transformational, servant, distributed, and strategic leadership were moderately practiced. Teachers exhibited high levels of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation and low levels of amotivation. Their performance, as measured by IPCRF ratings, was generally outstanding. Significant differences were found in leadership practices and motivation when grouped according to most profile variables, while only selected profile variables significantly influenced performance. Furthermore, leadership practices were found to have significant relationships with teachers’ motivation and, to a lesser extent, their performance. The study concludes that leadership practices play a crucial role in enhancing teachers’ motivation and influencing their performance. Based on the findings, a professional development plan and action plan were proposed to strengthen leadership practices and sustain high levels of teacher motivation and performance in public elementary schools.
