Abstract

The Philippines stands as a rising star in the wave of the global online gaming phenomenon. The country has seen more people adopting the virtual gaming world, from casual players to aspiring esports professionals. This study assessed the influence of online gaming on the technical skills development of the senior high school students of Cabangahan National High School, Cabangahan, Consolacion, Cebu for the school year 2023-2024 as a basis for an intervention plan. The design used was the descriptive-quantitative method of research with researcher-made questionnaire as the main tool for gathering the data. There were 130 participants in this study. Percentage was used in the treatment of data in terms of background information and their general academic average; the weighted mean was employed to assess the extent of influence of online gaming on technical skills development; chi-square was used to test the significant relationship between the general average grades of the respondents and the extent influence of online gaming on technical skills development. The study revealed that the overall grades of the respondents were above average. In the same manner, the general weighted mean of the respondents’ extent of the influence of online gaming on technical skills development is interpreted as agree. Moreover, across all seven questions, none of the relationships were found to be statistically significant, as all p-values exceeded the threshold of 0.05. This indicated that student’s grades were not significantly associated with their responses regarding the extent to which online gaming influences technical skills development. Therefore, the researcher highly recommends applying the output of this study, the learning guide.
