Abstract

This study aims to develop students’ speaking skills and communication habits in Saint Tonis College Inc. Researched students first to assess their speaking proficiency level through a mixed-methods model as well as interview those students who experience the highest and lowest level of success. The results show that the majority of students may be able to understand each other, but may not talk fluently or even be fluent in the written language. Fear of their mistakes in front of their peers affects students to rely on translation software and scripts, while very advanced speakers use movies and apps to hone their skills. Most of those students suffer from anxiety, so learning the new language they should have in this classroom won’t be effective. Based on these findings, students will receive special instruction from the teachers that helps them develop confidence and language skills to become more professional speakers in this process.

Keywords: Speaking proficiency, pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar, fluency, cohesion.
