Abstract

This research aims to examine and document the dances and songs of Omega de Salonera in order to fully understand the identity of Sitio Kapihan and its significance to the community’s collective identity. The study employed a qualitative and descriptive design with a community-based approach. Through purposive sampling, informants with direct experience in the group were selected—including trainers, dancers, songwriters, and officials. Data were gathered through interviews, observation, and document analysis, and were examined using content analysis. Findings revealed that the group’s songs and dances form a comprehensive cultural discourse. The songs revolve around three themes: Faith and Hope (e.g., “Buhata”), Sacrifice (e.g., “Ikaw”), and Renewal (e.g., “Himala ng Pasko”), which together create a “circular logic” linking members’ efforts to divine reward. The dances serve as physical manifestations of these values, expressing the spirit of Bayanihan (“Hinabangay Dance”), gratitude for nature (“Grasya”), and the unique fusion of faith and courage through the use of the image of the Sto. Niño and movements inspired by Arnis. The steps, costumes, and props carry deep symbolism that reinforces roles within the community and their collective identity. It can be inferred from the study that the art of Omega de Salonera is not merely a performance, but a living and dynamic theological and cultural mechanism. It serves as a foundation that shapes and strengthens morality, unity, and the unique identity of their community, rooted in profound spirituality and cooperation.
