Abstract
This study examined the influence of parental involvement on the academic achievement of Grade 2 pupils in Dananao Elementary School. Using a multi-method research design, the study integrated quantitative and qualitative approaches to provide a comprehensive understanding of the relationship between parental engagement and learners’ performance. A total of 262 parents participated in the study through a structured questionnaire and selected interviews. Quantitative data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, weighted mean, and Pearson correlation, while qualitative data were thematically analyzed. Findings revealed that the academic performance of pupils was generally at a satisfactory level. Parents demonstrated a high level of involvement in early learning practices at home, while involvement in learning practices at school and school-based activities was moderate. Significant positive relationships were found between parental involvement and academic achievement across all dimensions, with early practices at home showing the strongest association. Qualitative results identified key challenges faced by parents, including time constraints, limited knowledge in assisting academic tasks, financial difficulties, and barriers in communication with the school. The study concludes that parental involvement plays a vital role in enhancing learners’ academic performance, particularly through consistent support at home. However, contextual challenges limit parents’ full engagement, especially in school-based activities. The findings highlight the need for strengthened home-school partnerships and targeted intervention programs to support parents. Enhancing both the quality and consistency of parental involvement can contribute to improved academic outcomes among elementary pupils.
