Abstract

With the rapid rise of modern technologies, modernization has had a significant impact on education, particularly on Junior High School students’ learning of the Filipino language. This study was conducted to investigate the effects of modernization on the development of the Filipino language in students’ learning. In this study, the researcher used a qualitative method, and the respondents consisted of thirty-nine (39) Grade 10 students. The data show that language appreciation and modernization in the development of the Filipino language have a positive effect on students’ learning. With the help of technology, the internet, and other modern instructional tools, students’ knowledge expands and their moral character is shaped. Modernization enhances and deepens the three primary skills: speaking, reading, and writing. In addition, the respondents’ views also revealed the influence of social media platforms and AI on language change. As they actively participate in classroom activities, they learn to value their own language. This approach aligns with the goal of the K–12 curriculum to strengthen contextualized teaching in Filipino. The recommendations are discussed in the paper.
