Abstract
This study examined the effectiveness of the Nike Fitness App in improving the physical activity levels of Grade 8 students at Mandaue City Comprehensive National High School. Specifically, it aimed to determine students’ baseline and post-intervention activity levels and examine whether significant differences existed between pre-test and post-test scores after using the app. It also explored students’ perceptions and challenges in using the application. The study employed a quasi-experimental one-group pre-test–post-test design involving 40 purposively selected Grade 8 students who had access to smartphones and internet connectivity. Data were collected using a researcher-made Physical Activity Checklist and a Perception Survey Questionnaire, both validated by experts. Descriptive statistics, including frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, were used to summarize the data, while inferential analysis used the paired-samples t-test at the 0.05 level of significance. Results indicated that most respondents were 13 years old and had no prior experience using fitness applications. Baseline results showed that 80% of the students were highly active, 15% moderately active, and 5% had low activity levels. After the intervention, 90% were classified as highly active and 10% as moderately active. The findings indicated a statistically significant improvement in activity scores from pre-test to post-test, t (39) = ___, p < .001, d = 0.86. Students reported positive perceptions of the app across motivation, enjoyment, ease of use, and perceived benefits. However, challenges such as unstable internet connectivity and occasional technical issues were also noted. The findings suggest that the Nike Fitness App may serve as a supplementary tool in Physical Education (PE) programs to support student engagement in physical activity.
