Abstract
Students who employ effective study strategies tend to perform better academically than peers without structured routines (Van Sickle & Frey, 2025). This study examined the relationship between study habits and the Science performance of Grade 6 students at Lahug Elementary School, Cebu City, during the third grading period of the school year 2024–2025. Using a descriptive-correlational design, the study explored how students’ study behaviors influenced their academic outcomes. A total of 246 students from seven randomly selected sections participated in the study. Data were collected using a modified Study Habits Survey, which assessed habits such as concentration, remembering, organizing time, studying a chapter, listening and taking notes, taking tests, and motivation. Academic performance was measured using students’ Science grades for the third grading period. Ethical protocols, including consent and assent forms, were observed. Results showed that most students practiced study habits only sometimes, with motivation being the most consistently applied habit. Statistically significant relationships were found between all domains of study habits and Science performance, indicating that more effective habits are associated with better academic outcomes. Based on the findings, the study recommended implementing an action plan to strengthen key study habits, aiming to enhance the academic achievement of Grade 6 learners.
