Abstract
This study examines language planning at MSU–Institute of Science Education (MSU–ISED) and the role of the Meranaw language in education and culture. It aims to describe the current status of the Meranaw language within the institution, identify existing policies and initiatives, present the challenges in implementing language planning, and analyze the contribution of the language to the cultural identity of students. The research employed a descriptive research design and content analysis of data gathered through surveys, interviews, and document analysis. The respondents consisted of teachers, students, and administrators of MSU–ISED selected through purposive sampling. The findings revealed that although the Meranaw language is recognized as an important component of the institution’s academic and cultural environment, challenges remain in its effective implementation due to the absence of clear policies and insufficient resources. Nevertheless, the study confirmed that the Meranaw language plays a significant role in strengthening cultural identity and fostering a sense of community within the school. The study recommends a more systematic integration of the Meranaw language into academic programs, the formulation of explicit language policies, and the strengthening of cultural activities to preserve and promote the Meranaw language and literature.
