Abstract
This study employed a survey-correlational design to describe and interpret the phenomena under investigation, which was deemed appropriate for the study’s objectives due to its efficiency in facilitating data collection from respondents. The primary instrument used in gathering data was a structured questionnaire, and the analysis was conducted using statistical tools such as frequency count, mean, percentage, standard deviation, and Pearson r, with the level of significance set at 0.05 alpha. The respondents were selected through Stratified Random Sampling, focusing on fourth-year students from the College of Education with five major fields: Filipino, English, Science, Physical Education, and Technology and Livelihood Education. Out of a total of 368 pre-service teachers, a sample size of 310 was determined using the Raosoft online calculator, distributed as follows: 68 for Filipino, 65 for English, 50 for Science, 61 for BPED, and 66 for BTLED. Overall, the pre-service teachers experienced a “highly challenging” level of cognitive, physical, and emotional difficulties, which negatively affected their competence, confidence, and overall well-being. The data also revealed that their level of preparedness was “highly adequate,” indicating strong confidence and readiness to teach, particularly in practical classroom applications. Furthermore, the results showed a “significant relationship” between the challenges and preparedness of pre-service teachers, suggesting that challenges such as emotional stress and lack of practical support had a substantial impact on their readiness. This finding underscores the need for intensive training and support systems to better prepare them for their professional roles as educators.
