Abstract
The plight of the public-school teachers in the financial aspect has been an alarming issue. Their income can hardly cover their needs and that some are already dependent on loan sharks. If teachers continue to face financial problems, the need to improve their teachingaffects the quality of education. This study determinethe financial capability of Public School Teachers and its relationship to their teaching competence in Pangantucan, Division of Bukidnon for the school year 2018-2019. A researcher-made questionnaire was used as an instrument of the study. Frequency, percentage and Pearson Correlation were also used to determine the characteristics of the respondents, and the significant relationship between the respondents’ profile, financial capability and competence. The study revealed that financial capability of teachers in terms of financial literacy was low, these teachers find sticking to financial budgeting very difficult. Based on the findings, the researcher recommends to enhance the financial literacy of teachers through strong collaboration of schools and financial institutions where teachers are affiliated. Teachers with higher position and educational qualification are encouraged to teach their co-workers to plan ahead according to their financial needs through sharing of experiences and allowing teachers to participate in seminars and service trainings thereby enhancing competence and literacy in finance.
