Abstract
This survey-correlational research study aimed to determine the extent of e-sports engagement in relation to the soft skills development of e-sports players at Western Institute of Technology, Iloilo City for the second semester of Academic Year 2024-2025. The participants in this study were three hundred ten (310) out of one thousand four hundred eighty-six (1486) Civil Engineering students selected using stratified random sampling. Quantitative data were gathered using a validated 30-item researcher-made E-sports Engagement Questionnaire that measured the level of e-sports engagement of players and a 30-item researcher-made Soft Skill Development Questionnaire. The independent variable in this study was E-sports Engagement while Soft Skill Development was the dependent variable. Mean and standard deviation were used for descriptive analysis, while ANOVA and Pearson r were employed for inferential statistics set at a 0.05 alpha level of significance. The results revealed that e-sports players’ level of participation was moderate. It also revealed that the level of soft skills development of e-sports players was “HIGH,” which indicates that players show significant growth in soft skills such as leadership, strategic thinking, teamwork, communication, and problem-solving. Furthermore, there was no significant difference in the e-sports engagement and soft skills development of e-sports players. Lastly, there was no significant relationship between the variables being studied. It was concluded that regardless of the extent of engagement of players in e-sports, the level of their soft skills development was not affected.
