Abstract

This survey-correlational study determined the level of metacognitive awareness and science literacy of grade 3 students at the district of Batad, Iloilo, school year 2024-2025. The participants of this study were the one hundred ninety-eight (198) grade three learners randomly selected from a total population of four hundred five (405) learners. The independent variable of this study is the metacognitive awareness of grade three learners while the dependent variable is the science literacy of grade three learners. The data gathering instruments used were the Modified Metacognitive Awareness Inventory which was adapted from Schraw and Dennison, (1994) and the Researcher-made Science Literacy Test. The statistical tools used were the mean, standard deviation for descriptive analysis while ANOVA, pearson-r and regression analysis were used for inferential statistics. Results revealed that generally, the level of metacognitive awareness of grade 3 learners was found to be “High”. Generally, the science literacy level of grade 3 learners was found to be “Moderate”. There was a significant difference in the science literacy among the levels of metacognitive awareness of grade 3 learners. There was a significant relationship between metacognitive awareness and science literacy. Metacognitive awareness was found to be a significant predictor of science literacy.
