Abstract: This study focused on the evaluation and validation of a developed workbook to determine its appropriateness for teaching Filipino 9 (Asian Literature), specifically in the context of literary works from the Dinagat Islands. The objective was to develop a localized version of the Asian Literature module, as the researchers believe that this approach better addresses the cultural awareness and appreciation of students and the local community of Dinagat by integrating untold and undocumented local narratives. Through this research, the lessons are expected to create stronger connections with students, thereby increasing their engagement, understanding, and cultural identity. A descriptive-quantitative research design was used. The workbook was evaluated by five (5) Filipino 9 teachers selected through purposive sampling. Evaluation was conducted using a translated and modified version of the DepEd-LRMDS Evaluation Tool to suit the study’s objectives. The responses were analyzed using mean and standard deviation to assess the workbook’s effectiveness. Findings revealed that the literary works from Dinagat Islands integrated into the Asian Literature curriculum include parables, anecdotes, elegies, short stories, legends, and epics, all aligned with the learning competencies of Filipino 9. The workbook, titled Pilak-Dinagat, achieved a high-quality rating and was found to be highly acceptable as a supplementary learning material. The study’s output—Pilak-Dinagat: A Localized Workbook as Supplemental Material for Teaching Asian Literature—can be distributed and utilized effectively through practical means such as providing printed copies to teachers, uploading digital copies to DepEd’s LRMDS, and implementing its use in the Catch-Up Friday program. These strategies aim to ensure that the workbook is accessible, beneficial, and widely adopted. The study recommends its integration in the Asian Literature curriculum and the conduct of further research to assess its instructional impact.
