Abstract
This study evaluated the effectiveness of the FITPULSE Inspired High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) program in improving aerobic capacity, motivation, engagement, and well-being among college students. A quasi-experimental mixed-method convergent parallel design was employed, utilizing pre- and post-test fitness assessments and focus group discussions to examine both physical and psychosocial outcomes. The findings revealed noticeable improvements in aerobic capacity, with male participants’ mean scores increasing from 1.5 to 2.64 and female participants’ mean scores improving from 1.25 to 2.31 after the 6-week intervention. The program also promoted motivation and sustained engagement through autonomy-supportive activities, self-paced progression, and positive group interaction. These findings aligned with Self-Determination Theory, highlighting the importance of autonomy, competence, and relatedness in encouraging continued participation in physical activity. Overall, the study supports FITPULSE HIIT as an effective, adaptable, and time-efficient fitness intervention for college students.
