Abstract
This quasi-experimental research design was used to investigate the effect of problem-solving skills of Grade 8 students of Filamer Christian University, Inc. for the school year 2025-2026. The study utilized two sections which were composed of sixty-two (62) Grade 8 students. There were thirty-four (34) students from section Pettit and section Archer consisted of twenty-eight (28) students. The number of participants for both groups was determined by comparing their average grades in Mathematics during first and second quarter to ensure similarity of both groups. Elimination of students in each group was made until their grades became comparable using t-test for independence. The data were gathered using a 10-item researcher-made Problem Solving skills test which was equivalent to 50 points which each question was 5 points to measure the Problem Solving skills of the students. The instrument underwent content validation by the three (3) Mathematics teachers of Filamer Christian University, Inc. and panel of experts, their suggestions were incorporated in the final instrument. The independent variables in this study were Cici AI application and conventional strategies while the dependent variable was the Problem-solving skills of the Grade 8 students. The descriptive statistics used in this study were frequency count, percentage, mean, Cohen’s d, and standard deviation. For inferential statistical tools, t-test for independent and dependent samples was utilized. The alpha level of significance was set at 0.05. The major findings of the study were the following: The problem-solving skills of Grade 8 students in the pretest of both the control and experimental groups were “very low”. After the intervention, Grade 8 students in the control group had “average” problem-solving skills, while those in the experimental group had “high” problem-solving skills. There was no significant difference in the problem-solving skills of Grade 8 students in the pretests of the control and experimental groups. There was a significant difference in the problem-solving skills of Grade 8 students in the pretests and posttests of the control and the experimental groups. There was a significant difference in the problem-solving skills of Grade 8 students in the posttests of the control and experimental groups. The effect size of the Cici AI application in the problem- solving of Grade 8 students was “medium”.
Keywords: CICI AI application, problem-solving skills, quasi-experimental research.
