Abstract

This survey correlational study aimed to determine the relationships among language acquisition device awareness, first language interference, and English grammar mastery of Grade 7 students. Specifically, it determined the levels of LAD awareness, first language interference, and English grammar mastery, as well as the significant relationships among these variables. The respondents consisted of 226 Grade 7 students were selected through stratified random sampling. Data were collected using three researcher-developed instruments: the Language Acquisition Device (LAD) Awareness Questionnaire, the First Language Interference Questionnaire, and the English Grammar Mastery Test. The data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, and Pearson Product–Moment Correlation. The findings revealed that students demonstrated a high level of LAD awareness, first language interference, and English grammar mastery. Moreover, statistically significant relationships were also found among all variables. Consequently, the null hypothesis was rejected.

Keywords: Language Acquisition Device (LAD), first language interference, English grammar.
