Abstract

This mixed-method sequential explanatory research design study, employing a survey-correlational design and Focus Group Discussion (FGD), aimedss to determine the levels of pedagogical competence, digital literacy, and executive functions of Physical Education teachers in the Province of Capiz. Out of 535 Physical Education teachers, a total of 229 participants were selected using total population sampling. The instruments utilized in this study included a researcher-made questionnaire for pedagogical competence, the adapted digital literacy questionnaire developed by Redecker (2017), and a modified executive function questionnaire based on Barkley (2018). The independent variables of the study were pedagogical competence and digital literacy, while executive function served as the dependent variable. For data analysis, frequency count and percentage, mean, and standard deviation were used for descriptive statistics, while One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and Pearson’s r were employed for inferential analysis. All inferential tests were conducted at a 0.05 level of significance. The findings reveal that the levels of pedagogical competence, digital literacy, and executive function among Physical Education teachers are all rated as “high.” Furthermore, there is a significant difference in executive function when grouped according to levels of pedagogical competence and digital literacy. In addition, a significant relationship exists among pedagogical competence, digital literacy, and executive function. Based on these findings, the study proposes the development of a Professional Teaching Competency Training Model aimed at enhancing and integrating these key competencies to improve teaching effectiveness among Physical Education teachers.
