Abstract
This qualitative study investigated the multifaceted challenges impacting the Social and Emotional Well-being (SEWB)of forty Grade 11 students at Biabas Trade High School, focusing specifically on Academic Expectations, Peer Dynamics, and Social Media Influence. The findings revealed a complex interaction where students demonstrate high intrinsic motivation and self-discipline (Academic Expectations) but consistently struggle with stress and emotional exhaustion from heavy workloads, relying heavily on familial support as a core defense. While positive peer dynamics foster a vital sense of belonging and confidence, the prevalence of social comparison and exclusion frequently triggers insecurity and loneliness. Furthermore, social media serves as a dual-edged platform, offering social connection while simultaneously fueling anxiety and damaged self-esteem due to intense pressure for idealized self-presentation and the risk of cyberbullying. The study concludes that students’ emotional well-being is dependent on improving internal coping mechanisms and strengthening external support across these three domains. Recommendations target the integration of resilience training, digital literacy, and formalized peer and parental support into the school’s comprehensive strategy.
