Abstract

Proficiency in meticulous writing in the Filipino language is an essential skill required of senior high school students to develop their academic and professional competence. However, the lack of knowledge and skills in the proper application of writing conventions in Filipino—particularly in spelling, punctuation, and documentation—remains a challenge. This study aimed to assess the level of knowledge and skills of students in meticulous writing in Filipino and to develop learning materials based on the findings. A mixed-method design was employed involving 60 selected students from Alibadabad National High School in San Mariano, Isabela. Results revealed that the students’ level of knowledge was at the “beginning” stage, while their skills were rated as “acceptable.” A significant difference was found in the levels of knowledge and skills when grouped according to strand, but not according to sex and first language. A positive correlation was also identified between knowledge and skills in meticulous writing. Based on these findings, learning materials were developed to enhance students’ academic writing skills in Filipino.
