Abstract

This study, entitled Moralistic Analysis of Selected Contemporary Essays: An Appreciation, aims to examine the moral values expressed in selected contemporary essays and to explore their significance and implications in shaping the abilities of writers, readers, and society. The Moralistic Perspective was used as the theoretical framework to analyze the influence of literature on human ethics and ways of living. The study was conducted through content analysis of selected essays written by notable authors, namely: Ang Ina and Ang Martial Law at Pagninilay by Almayrah Tiburon; Mga Pagsasanay sa Paggalugad ng Siyudad by Eugene Y. Evasco; Doon po sa Amin sa Daang Bakal by Rusell Irene L. Lagunsad; Ngunit Wala Akong Litrato Noong Nasa Kolehiyo Ako by Reuel Molina Aguila; Overnight sa Sementeryo by Beverly Siy; Dalawampu’t Apat na Oras by Mubarak Tahir; and Patsi-patsing Danas sa Pangarap by Al Joseph Lumen. The results revealed various moral values such as resilience, love for family, faith, responsibility, compassion for others, hope, and the struggle for goodness. These moral values hold profound significance in shaping the abilities of writers and readers in making sound decisions, practicing ethical living, and developing a creative understanding of society. Moreover, the literary works demonstrate the implications of moral lessons for the broader community, particularly in promoting justice, social solidarity, and the pursuit of goodness. Overall, the study shows that the moralistic perspective is essential in analyzing contemporary literature and serves as a guide in understanding what is right and good within the context of personal and collective experiences.
